Job Purpose
To operate, supervise, and maintain the boiler system in strict compliance with DOSH regulations and applicable legislation, ensuring a safe, efficient, and continuous steam supply to support mill operations while maintaining full statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Boiler Operation & Supervision
- Operate and supervise boiler systems in accordance with approved operating procedures and DOSH requirements.
- Ensure boiler operations remain within safe working limits at all times.
- Conduct continuous monitoring of pressure, temperature, water levels, and safety devices.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with the Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (FMA) and DOSH boiler regulations.
- Act as the designated Competent Person / Responsible Person for boiler operation as required by law.
- Prepare for and support DOSH inspections, audits, and statutory examinations.
- Maintain valid certification, registration, and competency in accordance with DOSH requirements.
- Maintenance & Safety
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections, routine checks, and basic boiler maintenance.
- Identify defects, abnormalities, or unsafe conditions and take immediate corrective action.
- Coordinate with internal maintenance teams and external contractors for repairs and servicing.
- Ensure all safety valves, gauges, controls, and interlocks are fully functional and compliant.
- Documentation & Records
- Maintain accurate boiler logbooks, operational data, and maintenance records.
- Ensure all statutory documents, certificates, and inspection reports are valid and up to date.
- Report incidents, near misses, and abnormal operating conditions promptly in accordance with procedures.
- Operational Support
- Ensure continuous and reliable steam supply to meet production requirements.
- Advise management on boiler efficiency, fuel consumption, and operational improvements.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency response activities.
- Emergency Response
- Take immediate and appropriate action during boiler emergencies, breakdowns, or unsafe conditions.
- Assist in investigations of boiler-related incidents, accidents, or failures.
Requirements
- Certified Grade 2 Steam Boiler Engineer registered with DOSH Malaysia, holding the appropriate grade/class corresponding to the boiler rating.
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution.
- Sound knowledge of the Factories and Machinery Act 1967, DOSH boiler regulations, and applicable safety standards.
- Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience in industrial boiler operation and maintenance.
- Able to work independently and act as the Responsible Person (Competent Person) for boiler operation in full compliance with statutory requirements.
