Job Description

A NOC (Network Operations Center) Manager DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) environment is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and performance of the DWDM optical network infrastructure. This role combines general NOC management responsibilities with specific expertise in DWDM technology.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Oversight:

Manage and direct the NOC team to ensure 24/7 monitoring, incident detection, and resolution for the DWDM network. This includes ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and uptime targets.

Incident and Problem Management:

Lead critical incident response and escalation for DWDM-related issues. Manage the entire incident lifecycle, from detection to resolution, often applying ITIL principles. Drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring problems and implement continuous service improvements.

Performance Monitoring and Optimization:

Oversee the monitoring of DWDM network performance and capacity, including optical power levels, signal-to-noise ratios, and traffic utilization. Identify and address performance bottlenecks and proactively optimize the network for efficiency and stability.

DWDM-Specific Troubleshooting:

Provide advanced technical support and guidance to the NOC team for troubleshooting complex DWDM issues, including fiber cuts, equipment failures, and optical path problems. This may involve using specialized test equipment.

Vendor Management:

Liaise with third-party vendors for DWDM equipment and services, managing backhaul network issues and escalating problems as needed to ensure timely resolution.

Team Leadership and Development:

Supervise, mentor, and train NOC engineers and technicians, ensuring they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to manage the DWDM network effectively. Conduct performance reviews and manage staffing, scheduling, and on-call rotations.

Documentation and Reporting:

Ensure comprehensive documentation of network configurations, procedures, and incident reports related to the DWDM infrastructure. Generate regular performance reports and communicate network status to stakeholders.

Change Management:

Oversee the implementation of network changes and upgrades within the DWDM environment, ensuring proper planning, execution, and documentation to minimize service disruption.

Security and Compliance:

Ensure adherence to all company policies and industry standards related to network security and data privacy within the DWDM domain.

Qualifications:

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Telecommunications, IT) and several years of experience in network operations, with a significant focus on DWDM or optical networks.

Strong understanding of DWDM technology, including optical components, transmission principles, and network architectures.

Experience with network monitoring tools and incident management systems.

Leadership and team management skills.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.

Relevant certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Huawei HCIA-Transmission) are often preferred.
